STC awards Bachelor of Applied Technology degrees, as well as more than 100
degree and certificate program options in a variety of liberal arts, science,
social science, applied science, technology, business and nursing and allied
health fields of study.
STC’s student population marks the college as one of the nation’s
top Hispanic-Serving Institutions with more a more than 95 percent Hispanic
student body. Additionally, 75 percent of the college’s student population
is the first in their family to attend college.
With one of the most progressive distance learning programs in the state of
Texas, STC offers several online associate degrees options including business
administration, criminal justice, education, interdisciplinary studies, and
sociology with concentrations in anthropology, psychology and sociology.
The college offers a Bachelor of Applied Technology Degree in Technology Management,
as well as a BAT Degree in Computer and Information Technologies. STC is one
of only three Texas community colleges accredited to offer bachelor degrees
and the only Texas community college accredited to offer two bachelor’s
degrees. The first class of BAT students graduated from the college in May 2007.
STC has instituted a variety of dual enrollment programs, including early college
high schools, drop-out recovery programs and other unique initiatives with more
than 32 high schools. Programs allow eligible students to take college courses
while attending high school. More than 7,000 students are currently enrolled
in these programs.
The college has also developed intensive academic programs for students interested
in the medical and engineering fields. The Dual Enrollment Medical Science Academy
and Dual Enrollment Engineering Academy consist of concentrated two-year programs
of study and internships for qualified students to pursue an Associate of Science
degree during their junior and senior years in high school.
STC’s Partnership for Business and Industry Training offers employers
customized training to upgrade the skills of current employees and prepare new
employees for a variety of industries. Additionally, the college’s Continuing
and Professional Education Program provides opportunities for lifelong learners
to upgrade their skills, change careers or seek personal enrichment.
The college is the fiscal agent and home of the executive offices for the North
American Advanced Manufacturing Research and Education Initiative. STC serves
as the Regional Institute for Advanced Manufacturing linked to all the community
and technical colleges in the region. The college has taken the lead in helping
train the workers to fuel a regional manufacturing economy and to support innovations
in rapid response manufacturing.
