Campus and Community
While Texas State is a large university, its hillside campus, which has overlooked
downtown San Marcos for more than 100 years, is a welcoming and safe place.
The crystal-clear San Marcos River runs through the campus, adding to its natural
beauty and providing a range of recreational activities for students.
While San Marcos has a friendly, small-town feel, it’s also a growing
city of 50,000 people that offers an ever-increasing menu of options for shopping,
dining and recreation. Even more cultural and recreational opportunities are
just a short drive away: San Antonio is only 50 miles to the south and Austin
is just a half-hour to the north.
