Prairie State College is a richly diverse award winning community college located 30 miles south of downtown Chicago serving over 12,226 credit and non-credit students. For more than 50 years, Prairie State College (PSC) has provided quality education and programs to more than 230,000 members of our community. The College mission and core values support student-centered instruction that fosters success in adult, transfer and workforce education. The College has a first-rate faculty with a passion for teaching. PSC’s core values continue to strengthen strong credit programs in liberal arts and sciences, nursing, dental hygiene, and a variety of other disciplines. Our 123-acre campus in Chicago Heights includes classroom and administrative facilities, a Surgical Technology and Dental Hygiene Center, and the Christopher Art Gallery.
The main campus, located south of Vollmer Road, houses administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories, and student services facilities such as the bookstore, the Counseling & Academic Advising Center, the Student Success Center, Admissions, and the Business Office. The main campus also is home to the Business and Community Education Center, a place for special events, meetings, conferences, and the site of the Christopher Art Gallery. The Adult Training and Outreach Center, where the College's English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, and GED classes are held, and the Illinois workNet Center are also located on the main campus.
The College’s north campus facilities, to the north of Vollmer Road, includes the Health/Tech Center and the Fitness Complex, a unique partnership among Prairie State College, the Chicago Heights Park District, and St. James Hospital and Health Centers.
In addition to rich diversity Prairie State College offers a generous benefit package, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance, tuition reimbursement for administrators and staff, free courses in our Fitness Center, and an optional 403(b) plan in addition to a comprehensive retirement plan through the State University Retirement System(SURS).
