Riverdale, N.Y. – September 10, 2015. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent has been recognized as one of The Other College Guide’s “Best Bang for the Buck,” a ranking of four-year institutions that are the best value based on net price, retention and graduation rates, and graduate earnings. The Other College Guide is a new college guidebook, developed by Washington Monthly, featuring a ranking system that has been applied to more than 1,500 four-year schools and broken down by region. Measuring outcomes, rather than inputs, the ranking system is an essential tool for lower-income, first-generation, and minority students.

The College was ranked 51 out of 402 institutions in the Northeast region. The listing is based on the best available data focusing on what really matters, which according to their website, includes the questions: which schools will charge you a fair price and not bury you in debt? (Looking beyond the sticker price.) Which help students graduate? (Going to college but not getting a degree is an almost complete waste of a student’s time and money.) Which provide degrees that allow you to earn a decent income? (Students should at least have enough to pay off student loans, and hopefully a whole lot more.) The Other College Guide provides realistic information designed to help students navigate the process safely and successfully, providing a set of guidelines to help students find the right school and excel once they get there.

“Mount Saint Vincent’s recognition by Washington Monthly is well deserved. Our students and their families know that a quality education matters,” said Charles L. Flynn, Jr., President of the College of Mount Saint Vincent. “With our commitment to both academic quality and affordability, the College is not just a leader in the region, but also across the nation. We will continue to serve students of every background, not only the wealthy but also those with modest financial means because every student needs high quality education to turn potential into opportunity. We live the American Dream. Our faculty is excellent, student attainment is high, and our students graduate to lives of accomplishment and service. That's quite a mission, and we are proud of it."

According to Washington Monthly, this list differs from other popular rankings that highlight exclusive and pricey schools by providing advice for all—high school students, parents and guardians, teachers, guidance counselors, and others—on how to find the right school and succeed. The Other College Guide is a source of realistic information designed to help students navigate the process successfully.
