This highly competitive national scholarship will provide Andrea Porras with up to $40,000 annually for a maximum of three years to complete her bachelor’s degree.
Porras was raised in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, graduated from Chapin High School in 2015 and soon after, started taking courses at EPCC in the Fall 2015. Porras has been actively involved in EPCC. She is currently serving as the President for the EPCC Student Government Association, enrolled in the Honors Program, Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, has listed on the Dean’s and President’s List.
For Porras it is not the first time she has earned a scholarship. In 2016 she received the North East Rotary Club and the Student Government Scholarship; 2017 she earned the Hispanic Heritage Month Scholarship. With all these achievements is no surprise that Porras will graduate in May 2018 with an accumulative GPA of 3.96/4.00.
With the support of her family and this prestigious scholarship Porras is planning on studying out of state. “I am applying to different universities such as Stanford, UTSA, Baylor and NYU,” Porras said “My goal is to earn my Bachelors in Communications and Public Relations and then go to law school.”
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, El Paso Community College congratulates Ms. Porras’ selection as one of 47 students selected nationally for this most prestigious scholarship. EPCC is committed to helping students achieve their academic goals and preparing them for transfer to UTEP and other 4-year institutions,” Dr. William Serrata, EPCC President said. “We produce competitive and qualified students and Ms. Andrea Porras, selected for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, is one example of EPCC’s academic excellence.”
The mission of El Paso County Community College District is to provide educational opportunities and support services that prepare individuals to improve their personal quality of life and contribute to their economically and culturally diverse community.
