Interview Guide: 9 Tips To Get The Job

Would you go on a first date in dirty, wrinkled clothes?  Chances are you answered “no,” to that question, but now ask yourself why you answer “no.”  Because simply put, showing up in dirty, wrinkled clothes makes a bad first impression and makes a second date (let alone an ongoing relationship and/or a marriage) far less likely.

Now consider this: not properly preparing for a job interview is like wearing dirty, wrinkled clothes on a first date.  And while job interview preparation includes appearance, it goes well beyond just doing the laundry and choosing the right shirt and shoes.

The staff at Ashford University have compiled an article titled “9 Interview Preparation Tips: How to Prepare for an Interview,” which offers advice on the following nine topics related to getting ready for and proper conduct at a job interview:

1. Research

2. Look the part: clothing & grooming

3. Bring your paperwork

4. Arrive early

5. Engage, engage, engage

6. Look eager & happy to be there

7. It’s not about the money

8. Other taboo topics

9. End on a positive note

In addition to the nine preparation tips, the Ashford University article talks about other job interview-related topics, including anticipating what questions you are going to be asked at an interview, having questions ready to ask the interviewer and putting yourself in the interviewer’s shoes.
