At H.O. we congratulate new education leaders that have embarked on the challenging but very rewarding journey of education leadership.

Lester Edgardo Sandres Rápalo

Dr. Lester Edgardo Sandres Rápalo, Ed.D., MBA, MA, has been selected as Rockland Community College’s eighth president. Prior to joining Rockland Community College, Dr. Rápalo was the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Bronx Community College, City University of New York (CUNY), and dean of Social Sciences, Business and History at Union College. Dr. Rápalo was born in Honduras and speaks Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. Dr. Rápalo earned his Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, an MBA from Syracuse University, an MA in Hispanic Literature and Linguistics and a BA in Language and Literature both from the University of Massachusetts.

Tammy K. Evetovich

Dr. Tammy K. Evetovich has been named the 15th chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Evetovich served as the provost and vice chancellor of Academic Affairs at UW-Platteville beginning in May 2020. From February through April 2022, she held a concurrent role as interim vice chancellor for Administrative Services. Prior to joining UW-Platteville, Evetovich served in two positions at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., as dean of the School of Natural and Social Sciences and, prior to that, department chair of the Department of Health Human Performance and Sport. Evetovich earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in exercise physiology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Amanuel Gebru

Dr. Amanuel Gebru has been appointed as Los Angeles City College’s next president. Dr. Gebru is a first-generation college student and immigrant focused on equitable student outcomes, mentoring and academic excellence. As current vice president of Instruction and Student Services at Moorpark College, Dr. Gebru is also the Chief Student Services Officer for a college of over 19,000 students. He holds a doctorate in education with an emphasis in organizational leadership from the University of La Verne, an MS in counseling, and a BA in Communication Studies, both from CSU Long Beach.

Daniel J. Dupee II

Dr. Daniel J. Dupee II has been appointed as the 7th president of Jefferson Community College. He has served as Jefferson’s administrator-in-charge since June 2022, and prior to that appointment, he was the College’s executive vice president of Administration, Finance and Enrollment Services. Dr. Dupee’s tenure as College president began June 7, 2023. He holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Northeastern University, a certificate of advanced study in educational leadership from LeMoyne College, master’s and bachelor’s degrees in business administration from Columbia College, and an associate in humanities and social sciences from Onondaga Community College.
