All New York State public colleges at The State University of New York (SUNY) and The City University of New York (CUNY) will have a food pantry or stigma-free food access as part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Comprehensive “No Student Goes Hungry Program.”
The program will be established at 100 percent of the schools by the end of the fall semester. New York is the first state in the nation to launch such a program to combat student hunger.
Currently 90 percent of the SUNY and CUNY schools have implemented the program. SUNY and CUNY are the first in a larger plan to provide students in kindergarten through college the access to adequate nutrition they need.
SUNY has expanded on the program by offering mobile food trucks, local farm crop sharing, a subsidized on campus grocery store, and allows students to "pay" a campus parking ticket in food donations to an on-campus pantry.
