(December 3, 2015 – Cypress, CA) Trident University International (Trident) is proud to announce a new academic scholarship. The Glenn R. Jones Scholarship Fund was established in 2015 in honor of Jones International University (JIU) founder Glenn R. Jones to support exceptional student scholarship with a preference for students with a military affiliation.
JIU was established in 1992 and was known for its student-first focus and high quality postsecondary education delivered to thousands of students around the world. In March, 2015, JIU announced it was closing, and entered into a formal agreement with Trident and other academic partners to facilitate a smooth transition of students from JIU to other academic institutions.
Glenn R. Jones was recognized as a pioneer in online and distance learning who devoted much of his life to his passionate belief that world-class education should be available to everyone, everywhere. In its pursuit of excellence, JIU became the first regionally accredited, fully online university ever.
Jones, a veteran of the United States Navy, passed away on July 7, 2015 at the age of 85. In his honor, Trident renamed its business school The Glenn R. Jones School of Business in June 2015.
“The student experience was as important to Glenn R. Jones as it is to us here at Trident. With that in mind, we established this scholarship as a way to honor Jones and reward the successes of our students,” said Travis Allen, President & CEO.
The Glenn R. Jones Scholarship for Student Success is offered to all new undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate persistence and academic success. New students applying to Trident for the December 2015 session will be automatically considered for the Glenn R. Jones Scholarship. All applications must be submitted by December 14, 2015.
