A $1.6 million gift to the University of South Carolina Upstate is honoring a former professor’s legacy. The professor, Barbara Hastings, served in the school’s college of business and economics for more than 20 years and started a foreign exchange program with Germany.

Gift Honors Legacy Of Former Professor
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — The University of South Carolina Upstate is getting a gift of $1.6 million to honor the legacy of a former professor.
The Spartanburg school said in a news release Wednesday that the gift honors the late Barbara Hastings, who served more than 20 years as a professor in the school's college of business and economics.
Hastings is credited with starting a foreign exchange program with Germany. She died in October of last year at her home in Saluda.
The money is being placed in an endowment and will be used to fund international travel and study aboard for USC Upstate students. Funds will also be used to support the study of international business.
Her contribution is the largest planned gift ever received by the USC Upstate Foundation.
