UConn Receives $12M Grant

Funding Is For Air Force R&D Efforts

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — The University of Connecticut is receiving more than $12 million in federal grant funding from the Air Force Research Lab program.

The grant will be used over a four-year-period and enable UConn to assist manufacturers with research and development. Funds will also be used to train graduates the skills needed by the aerospace industry, and support more collaboration with industry and government.

Seven faculty researchers, 10 doctoral graduate students and two postdoctoral researchers from UConn's School of Engineering will work on projects. Members of Connecticut's congressional delegation say the funds will ultimately help develop advanced materials and manufacturing processes for the Air Force.

The Air Force Research Labor program attempts to build strong partnerships between academia and the Air Force's aerospace industry to address urgent needs of the military.
