10 Full-Ride EHSI Scholarships

An Emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution (EHSI) is a school that has an enrollment of full-time equivalent Hispanic students that falls between 15 percent and less than 25 percent.

The following are 10 examples of these institutions and some of their full-ride scholarships:

1. Illinois Institute of Technology

Duchossois Leadership Scholars Program’s benefits include full tuition, as well as room and board allowance. Recipients also take part in summer education experience, which could include an international experience, a community or government service experience, a summer internship with a corporate entity or another leadership and service activity designed by a Duchossois Leadership Professor.

2. Loyola Marymount University

The Trustee Scholarship is Loyola Marymount University’s most prestigious academic scholarship. Trustee Scholars receive scholarship and grant assistance equal to full tuition, room and board for four years. Ten Trustee Scholarships are offered annually. Selection is extremely competitive and includes an on campus interview with faculty during the annual Scholars Weekend.

3. Rollins College

The Alfond Scholars Programs annually awards up to 10 full scholarships—including tuition, room and board—to entering first-year students in the College of Liberal Arts at Rollins College. Scholarship totals include federal and state awards for which a student might already be eligible. Alfond Scholarships are renewable for three additional years.

4. Salem College

The Dr. John Preston Davis Art Scholarship is specifically for students who are interested in majoring in one of the following art-related areas of study: Studio Art, Interior Design or Art History.  The Davis Scholarship is a full tuition scholarship, and it is renewable annually with a 3.0 grade point average.

5. University of California-Los Angeles

Annually, up to 10 freshmen candidates are nominated to receive four-year Stamps scholarships. Nominees will represent the very top of UCLA’s highly selective and academically accomplished freshman applicant pool. The scholarship will provide up to UC-wide tuition and fees for California residents and UC-wide tuition and fees plus the non-resident tuition supplement for domestic non-residents.

6. University of Florida

Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarships offer full tuition or room and board, lab fees, $1,200 each year for books, and $300-$500 monthly allowance, depending on the academic year.  The four-year scholarship is awarded to high school seniors and engineering freshmen, and the two- and three-year scholarships are awarded to college sophomores and freshmen.

7. University of Hawaii at Hilo

The Regents and Presidential Scholarships support students with a record of outstanding academic achievement. Regents Scholars receive a full tuition waiver for four years of undergraduate study, and Presidential Scholars receive a full tuition waiver for two years of undergraduate study. All scholars receive $4,000 a year and a one-time travel grant of $2,000.

8. University of Miami

The Ronald A. Hammond Scholarship is awarded to diverse high school seniors (many hail from underrepresented backgrounds) who have demonstrated academic excellence and who intend to continue their academic pursuits through graduate education.  Hammond Scholars receive the full cost of tuition for four years of undergraduate study at the University of Miami.

9. The University of Texas at Austin

The Forty Acres Scholarship’s funding provides for tuition, a living stipend, a book stipend, and enrichment activities including a community component, a global experience, and professional experiences.  Finalists should: distinguish themselves in high school through leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and community service; possess strong communication skills; excel academically; and aspire to change the world.

10. The University of Texas at Dallas

Eugene McDermott Scholars Program Scholars receive one of the most selective and generous undergraduate merit awards in the nation.  It includes a full scholarship and stipend package with access to UT Dallas’ rigorous education, leadership training, cultural enrichment, and personalized opportunities designed to equip them with the skills, experience, and confidence to succeed as leaders.

HSI Full-Ride Scholarships

In addition to the EHSIs, Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) also offer full-ride scholarships.  The follow are a couple of examples of such programs:

1.  University of Houston

The Tier One Scholarship’s benefits include: all tuition and mandatory fees for four years of undergraduate studies (architecture students receive five years of benefits), on-campus housing and meal plan for the first two years at the University of Houston, $1,000 stipend to support undergraduate research and $2,000 stipend to support learning abroad.

2.  Barry University

The Barry Stamps Scholars Program provides full tuition, as well as room and board, over four years, plus funds for study abroad, undergraduate research and other exceptional learning experiences. Prominent leadership opportunities include the Presidential Ambassador Program and being a student representative at Barry University events. The award is renewable each year.
