HOUSTON -- alliantgroup, a national leading provider of specialty tax services, recently announced the rollout of the firm's STEM scholarship program for students throughout the State of Texas. All five $10,000 scholarships for the fall semester of 2017 are still open to recent high school students pursuing a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related fields.

As a result of the high demand but short supply of qualified workers in this area, STEM careers have become some of the most lucrative professions in the modern economy. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of May 2014 the annual mean wage for all STEM occupations was $85,570, which is more than double the average of all other professions. The same agency also predicts that STEM job opportunities will grow by 13 percent over the next decade illustrating the excellent career prospects for students pursuing a STEM education.

"As the economy continues to become more reliant on new and innovative technologies, a strong STEM skillset will be of the utmost importance for the next generation of American workers," said alliantgroup CEO, Dhaval Jadav. "The jobs of tomorrow are intrinsically tied to the rapid advancements being made in science and technology, and those students pursuing STEM will have a major advantage in a competitive and changing job market."

To be eligible for the scholarship, students need to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0. To apply, candidates must create a short, 30-120 second video discussing how their passion for STEM has fueled their educational goals.

"All students should be able to pursue a higher education. Financial barriers often stop students from choosing a career in STEM, so these scholarships are a way for us to give back and do a small part in bringing more technical talent to the American workplace. Every high school student in Texas with an interest in STEM should apply for these scholarships," said Jadav.
