CCNY unveils stellar Class of 2016

The Class of 2016 at The City College of New York’s 170th Commencement Exercises comprises 3,848 students whose success stories are a continuation of a CCNY legacy. This year, that tradition brings First Lady Michelle Obama to historic Harlem to salute the institution and its latest graduates.

  Among the numerous standouts in the graduating class are:

  • Rokeya Begum, a SEEK student graduating with a BA in history. Accepted to 14 law schools in New York and New Jersey, she has decided to attend CUNY Law this fall;
     
  • Tyler Joseph, who is receiving his second undergraduate degree, a BS in mathematics with a minor in computer science.  A drummer, he earned a BFA in jazz performance in 2012 and begins a PhD program in Columbia University’s Department of Computer Science this fall;
     
  • Luis Paulino Nova, a Dominican actor and singer, receiving a BS in political science with a minor in Theater. He arrived in the United States six years ago and has appeared in Off-Broadway theater productions, independent films and a Dominican TV series;
     
  • Fang Yuan, from Shanghai, has earned an MS from CCNY’s Sustainability in the Urban Environment Program. Her focus was on sustainable buildings. She founded Green Mind, a public environmental education platform on WeChat, the largest Chinese social media channel.

Other Class of 2016 stars include Valedictorian Andoni Mourdoukoutas, Salutatorian  Orubba Almansouri other members of CCNY’s 2016 “Great Grads” selection.
