Erualdo Gonzalez, associate professor of Chicana and Chicano studies at Cal State Fullerton, has been tapped for KPCC's Aug. 19 "AirTalk" broadcast — part of the public radio station's 30th anniversary regional tour.
"I've been asked to give an academic view of the cultural history of the city and downtown, where this is now, and what has led to gentrification in the downtown," Gonzalez explained.
Listeners may get a preview of elements of his forthcoming book, “The Latino City: Urban Revitalization, Politics, and the Grassroots.” Gonzalez joined the CSUF faculty in 2007 and holds a Ph.D. from UCI.
The 7-8:30 p.m. program will be broadcast live from Santa Ana at the Discovery Cube on Main Street.
The broadcast will feature a panel discussion on "gentrification and the struggle to preserve a community’s culture while also boosting business," per the KPCC website.
Other panelists for the 89.3-FM broadcast include: OC Weekly Editor Gustavo Arellano, who has taught at CSUF; Ryan Chase, president of Downtown Inc.; Hassan Haghani, executive director of Santa Ana's Planning and Building Agency; Mark McLoughlin, Floral Park neighborhood Community leader; artist Alicia Rojas, co-founder of Santa Ana Community Artists Coalition; and community organizer Ana Siria Urzua.
