DOVER, Del. (AP) — The state Senate has passed a bill that encourages Delaware colleges and universities to assist foreign-born student entrepreneurs in maintaining proper legal status within the United States.

The Senate on Tuesday unanimously passed the measure, which is aimed at students engaged in developing new businesses and technologies in Delaware. The bill is being promoted as an economic development measure. It now heads to the House.

The measure was approved after lawmakers added an amendment specifying that it will expire three years after enactment without subsequent legislative approval to extend it. The bill states that schools may identify and sponsor the proper legal status needed by entrepreneurs who are currently graduate students, or who were awarded a graduate degree within the past three years.
