EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A new fire station is set to open next month on the Edwardsville campus of Southern Illinois University.

Edwardsville Fire Chief Rick Welle tells the Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/2aEexNf) the facility is framed and construction is nearly complete. The $3.8 million fire station will serve the campus and the city's growing west side.

The station will have one engine, one truck and one ambulance. Its design includes a small lobby with an emergency phone that anyone will be able to use to get help from paramedics.

The fire chief says staffing will start at two to four people with the goal of expanding the workforce.
