Bronx Community College and LaGuardia Community College have partnered with the Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity to launch a first-of-its-kind program for part-time students.

About 40 percent of the community college students that attend a City University of New York (CUNY) are part-time. The Mayor’s Office is supporting CUNY’s efforts to help part-time students finish school by providing $3.9 million over five years to implement new programs at both colleges.

The LaGuardia Community College Part-Time Completion Initiative and the Bronx Community College Advancing Part-Time Excellence (APEX) Program will be launching this fall helping 400-500 students. The initiative is designed to help the majority of students that face significant barriers in trying to reach degree completion.

The students will be required to earn 18 credits per year and will be provided with a dedicated advisor, priority course registration, career development, and counseling.
