Just the thought of changing careers might be disturbing. Let alone taking the decision and making it a reality. Our brain is trained to face threats to keep us alive. That has been happening from the very beginning of humanity. So it is no news that we feel scared about facing the unknown, like in this case. It is our job to trick our brain and turn threats into challenges so our fear will subdue.
A positive attitude from the start
If we think that we have not had any chances for career advancement, that we might not find people willing to help us, that we might not get the support from friends or family that we need, then we need to rethink what role we are giving to ourselves in our lives. Are we the victims or the heroes in our existence? Like in the movies, heroes take significant responsibilities to save the world. What responsibilities are you ready to take to pull yourself up? How seriously do you want to change shifts? If you keep on reading, you probably started the quest. It is easier to fall in the negativity trap because it subconsciously implies that there is nothing else you can do and, consequently, it is worthless any further action. So, you need to look for your inner strength and go for it and not let anything or anyone stop you.
If we start thinking that we are outdated on how to write a CV or have never written a personal statement and get stuck in the thought, we will get frustrated and get nowhere. It is crucial to turn negative thoughts and fears into challenges, and inaction into action. For example, we may take the opportunity to explore and learn about CV trends and improve our writing by researching, talking to people, getting a coach, etc.
Positive thinking during the hiring process
If you made it to the second interview, you probably are as qualified as the other applicants. Prospective employers will not waste their time interviewing people who are not of their interest.
What you show in the interview is what they expect you to project in your daily performance. When you answer a question putting it in its best possible light, you will give your interviewer, in some way, assurance on how you will behave at work. The same is true when expressing yourself with enthusiasm and confidence, which can give you some extra points, even when you speak about your weaknesses. What kind of people do youlike around you? Optimistic or pessimistic? Think about that, and you will find the answer to why any employer expects positive behavior and attitude at work. Therefore, anything you can do in this matter will help.
Also, keep in mind that being rejected does not mean you are doomed. Take advantage of the negative experience to reflect on what you can polish for the next time. Was it that you did not look at the camera during a virtual interview? Or did you bite your nails? If you think that you have covered these general aspects, then go more in-depth. What have you learned from this failed interview? You may want to write it down, analyze it, and keep looking.
It is all about attitude, positive attitude, easy to say, challenging to do. The more inert we feel, the more help we need. Read, talk to people, meditate, look for professionals if necessary. The point here is not to stay put. The point is to keep moving, whatever it takes. The job you want is there for you to grasp it.
