Miami – Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus will host for the eight consecutive time the Congressional Hispanic Caucus institute’s (CHCI) college readiness program, Ready to Lead (R2L) on Saturday, Nov. 14. 

“The North Campus is pleased to once again partner with CHCI to deliver a strong charge to our community’s youth, focused on leadership, service and college success,” said Dr. Malou C. Harrison, President of the North Campus.

R2L Spokesperson, Raul Magdaleno will deliver closing remarks at 2:40 p.m.  Magdaleno, a CHCI Alumnus is a recognized community servant leader, and professional empowerment speaker with an inspiring story that stresses the importance of the pursuit of an education, despite the challenges involved.   His message encourages students to be resilient in their journey to and through higher education.

With the support of National and Miami sponsors, CHCI Miami alumni, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and MDC staff and administrators, MDC North Campus will welcome 300 + students from local high schools.  The intensive one-day program helps high-school students prepare for postsecondary education by motivating them to complete high school, empowering them to serve and lead in their communities, and instilling a belief that a college education is achievable. These students will be trained in college planning, financing a college education, and leadership development. 

CHCI’s signature “Mentoring Power Hour” will allow MDC student leaders, CHCI alumni and local professionals to connect with participants to discuss and share information about personal and civic responsibility.

The North Campus will showcase an Academic EXPO to give students the opportunity to explore MDC's more than 300 academic pathways leading to Associate’s and Bachelor’s degree programs.  The event is free and open to all high school students.
