Mount Saint Vincent Hosts Dedication of Fishlinger Center for Public Policy Research

Financing October 2015 PREMIUM

Riverdale, N.Y. – October 15, 2015 – The College of Mount Saint Vincent will host the dedication of the Fishlinger Center for Public Policy Research on Saturday, October 17 at 11 a.m., during its first annual Reunion/Homecoming and Family Weekend.

The dedication will take place in the newly-renovated Center in Founders Hall, where two former classrooms have been remodeled—one providing laboratory space comprised of 25 computer work stations, and the other with a focus group setting, fully equipped with audio and video recording, projection, and both wired and wireless Internet access. The Center, which focuses on public opinion and key public policy concerns through independent and objective research, serves as a forum for meaningful dialog and advocacy on carefully selected topics.

In addition to launching two new interdisciplinary programs in Public Policy and Market Data Analytics earlier this year, the Center recently completed its first public policy survey project on a range of social issues. Following the dedication, there will be a presentation on the results of the landmark study, featuring James Donius, Ph.D., the Director of the Center. Dr. Donius will be joined in discussion by student leaders and activists who are engaged in anti-trafficking efforts.

Saturday’s dedication will follow a reception honoring William and Joan Fishlinger, who generously donated $1 million to the College to underwrite startup costs for a center devoted to public opinion and responsible debate. The Fishlinger family is deeply rooted in philanthropy and community activism, and the couple have continuously shared with their children and their colleagues their desire to broaden students’ opportunities.

The Center will continue to conduct deep and broad studies of public opinion on key public policy concerns through independent and objective research conducted by students, faculty, and other members of the academic community.
