At HO, we congratulate new education leaders that have embarked on the challenging but very rewarding journey of education leadership.

Dr. Mike Muñoz

Dr. Mike Muñoz has been appointed Superintendent-President at Long Beach City College after serving as the interim Superintendent-President since March 2021. He first joined LBCC in 2018 as the Vice President of Student Services. Prior to LBCC, he spent more than a decade at Rio Hondo College serving in several key leadership positions.

Shakerra Carter

Shakerra Carter, Ed.D., has been selected to serve as the Vice President of Student Services (VPSS) at San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE). Dr. Carter previously served for more than five years as SDCCD's Dean for Outreach, Student Affairs, and Pre-Enrollment Services. She has earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from SDSU.

Dr. Lim

Dr. Lim has been named ninth President and also Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Dr. Lim presently serves as the interim president of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Previously, Dr. Lim was UTA’s provost and vice president for academic affairs from 2017 to 2020.

Mark S. Wrighton

Mark S. Wrighton, Ph.D., was elected President of the George Washington University January 1, 2022. For almost 24 years (July 1995-May 2019), Wrighton served as the 14th Chancellor and chief executive officer of Washington University in St. Louis.  Wrighton started his career at the MIT in 1972 as Assistant Professor of Chemistry.  From 1981 until 1989, he held the Frederick G. Keyes Chair in Chemistry. He was Head of the Department of Chemistry from 1987-1990 and became Provost of MIT in 1990 until 1995.

Neeli Bendapudi

Neeli Bendapudi has been named as Penn State’s 19th president and will make history as the first woman and person of color to serve as the University’s president. Bendapudi has served as president and professor of marketing at the University of Louisville, Kentucky. Additionally, she held administrative roles including provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of Kansas, dean of the School of Business at the University of Kansas, and founding director of the Initiative for Managing Services at Ohio State University.

Nicholas Alton Lewis

Nicholas Alton Lewis has been appointed Associate Vice President for Academic Initiatives and Associate Dean in the Office of the Dean of the College at Bard College in New York. Lewis comes from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he is currently Senior Associate Dean and Special Advisor to the President for Strategic Engagement.

Martin Schmidt

MIT Provost Martin Schmidt has been named as the 19th president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Schmidt, who earned his BS in electrical engineering at RPI in 1981, will assume its presidency on July 1, 2022. He has spent more than 40 years at MIT as a student, faculty member, and administrative leader.

 

Kyle Farmbry

Kyle Farmbry, J.D., Ph.D.,  has been appointed as the next 10th president at Guilford College. Farmbry is a proven senior administrator, executive, and thought leader. Dr. Farmbry holds a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, a master’s in Public Administration, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Public Administration from the George Washington University. He also holds a Juris Doctorate from the Rutgers University School of Law.
