The nonprofit medical research organization Chan Zuckerberg Biohub (CZ Biohub) has awarded $13.7 million to new collaborative health research. Over the next three year seven teams from UC Berkeley, UCSF, and Stanford scientists, physicians and engineers will work on initiative biomedical research.

The awards are funding two new programs the CZ Biohub Microbiome Initiative and the CZ Biohub Intercampus Research Awards. For the first time all three schools will work together advance fundamental research with accuracy and speed bringing the beneficial services to all.

The CZ Biohub Microbiome Initiative was launched as a pilot program earlier this year to give $4 million over three years to support research on the community of microbes within the human body that influence many aspects of health, from nutrition and immune function to drug metabolism.

CZ Biohub was inspired by the initiative to create the Intercampus Research Awards. The new awards program supports collaborative research by clinicians, biologists, chemists, data scientists, mathematicians, engineers and bioethicists from all three campuses.

CZ Biohub will give $9.7 million over three years for the awards.
