NEW YORK -- DonorsChoose.org has established a special recovery fund to help teachers and students in Florida and other southeast classrooms damaged by Hurricane Irma. Individuals can give at www.donorschoose.org/hurricane-irma, and donations will be used to help teachers gather the supplies they need to rebuild their classrooms, including books, school supplies, safety equipment, classroom furniture, and other recovery resources.

DonorsChoose.org is also collecting donations for teachers impacted by Hurricane Harvey, and has already begun shipping materials to teachers along the Gulf Coast impacted by the storm.

"Hurricanes Harvey and Irma have caused damage across some of our country's largest school districts, which means hundreds of thousands of students and teachers will be grappling with loss at school as well as at home," said Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose.org. "Our donors and partners are ready to support the educators who are rebuilding classrooms and addressing vital student needs so that kids can continue to learn and feel supported."

The DonorsChoose.org community has previously raised over $3 million to help teachers recover after disasters like Superstorm Sandy, tornadoes in Moore, Okla., and Joplin, Mo., and last year's flooding in Louisiana. The Hurricane Harvey response has already become the organization's largest recovery effort to date.
