ENDICOTT, N.Y. (AP) — New York's public college system is assembling thousands of care packages for victims of relationship violence.

The "SUNY's Got Your Back" program launched last year and produced 10,000 comfort bags filled with toiletries and personal notes for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

State University of New York leaders say volunteers expect to assemble another 10,000 kits at two events with the PGA — the Dick's Sporting Goods Open in Endicott, which took place on Thursday and the Northern Trust Tournament in Old Westbury taking place on Aug. 23.

Professional golfers and their wives will help SUNY students assemble the kits, along with volunteers from the New York State Police and other state agencies.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher says the project frees victim service organizations to use their resources for other things.
