Parents, Teachers, Kids: Register Now for the Island University’s Science Fair Workshop

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s College of Education is sponsoring its first ever Science Fair Workshop for educators, parents and students from grades K-12 on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop will be held at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Education Center for Math and Science Building located at 6300 Ocean Drive.

“The Science Fair Workshop kicks-off the 28th Coastal Bend Regional Science Fair Year” said Dr. Tonya Jeffery, Assistant Professor of Science Education at A&M-Corpus Christi. “It’s also a wonderful opportunity for the university to engage with the community and promote the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”

The workshop will feature panel discussions by experienced teachers, judges and past winners of the science fair. Teachers, parents and students will hear up-to-date safety rules and guidelines for experimental research and learn the Scienteer, a new paperless online submissions database. They will also hear suggestions on how to effectively mentor students’ projects, hear about the best practices in science writing and reporting and listen to science fair student testimonials.

The registration fee is $12 for adults and $8 for students and will include continental breakfast and lunch. Teachers in attendance will earn 6 hours of CPE credit. Registration will end on Saturday, Sept. 26. Online registration can be found at http://sciencefair.tamucc.edu/. The workshop with the support of Valero Energy, Coastal Bend Community Foundation and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Regional Science Fair.
