U. of Michigan students to get CPR training on way to class

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Students at the University of Michigan are being offered CPR training as they head to and from class.

An event Tuesday at the Ann Arbor school's Chemistry Building seeks to teach hands-only CPR, which doesn't require mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Participants in the university's club sports are partnering with emergency medicine employees and the American Heart Association to offer the training. Organizers say they plan to stop students who are passing through and offer them the training.

Many cardiac arrests occur in public places, and experts say the chances of survival are much higher if a bystander administers CPR before medics arrive.
