UC Merced is one of 33 schools to join the HHMI Inclusive Excellence initiative. They will receive $1 million over the course of the next five years to test a new undergraduate biological sciences curriculum.

Biology is one of the most popular majors on campus and the grant will allow underrepresented and non-traditional students to pursue careers in the field. The HHMI grant approach is intended to improve retention rates and educational outcomes by active hands on learning experiences.

In order to succeed students, faculty and staff will be supplied with the tools and support to contribute to biology education research beyond UC Merced.
