The University of Virginia just inherited more than 400 presidential memorabilia items making it the largest private collection ever donated to their Center for Politics.

The collection from Jack F. Christie contains items from both political parties and seven presidential administrations. A good portion of the collection stems from the Kennedy administration as Christie worked with the president. However, it also includes materials from Franklin D. Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Johnson, Nixon and Carter administrations.

Rare items include the bible that was on the podium when Senator John F. Kennedy spoke after accepting his party’s nomination in 1960, an elephant-shaped commemorative bottle issued by the Nixon campaign and a badge from the 1956 Democratic National Convention.

The Center will use these rare and rarely seen carefully in the upcoming fall and spring semesters.
