SIU To Recruit Alumni For 'Volunteer' Adjunct Positions [Education News]

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking volunteers with graduate degrees to serve as adjunct faculty. Chancellor Carlo Montemagno posted a statement Tuesday indicating the "pilot project" is being developed in collaboration with the SIU Alumni Association. Those approved wouldn't teach entire courses, but may deliver an individual lecture, lead a seminar discussion, mentor students or contribute to thesis committees.

Judge Deals Big Setback To Trump On 'DREAMers' Program [Beyond Education]

A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration must resume a program that has shielded hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation but gave it 90 days to restate its arguments before his order takes effect. The ruling by U.S. District Judge John D. Bates in Washington, if it survives the 90-day reprieve, would be a new setback for the administration.

Richmond FBI To Host Second Annual Youth Academy [Education News And Beyond]

The Richmond division of the FBI will host its second annual Youth Academy this summer to give teens a comprehensive look at today's FBI. The two-day program will be held in July at the FBI's Richmond field office. Students may be offered case studies drawn from resolved cases, but will not be exposed to active cases or day-to-day investigations.

Governor's College Credit Requirement Bill Fails In House [Education News]

A bill by Republican Gov. Bill Haslam that would require certain college scholarship students to finish 30 hours of credits annually has failed in the Tennessee House. The Republican-led House's 41-46 vote Monday dealt Haslam a defeat in the final days of his last annual legislative session as governor. Haslam has touted the proposal as helping push students toward graduating on time.
