One of Raritan’s cornerstone programs provides education to inmates in seven New Jersey state prisons. This program started modestly about 10 years ago as a partnership with Rutgers and Princeton Universities. Initially, the goal was to provide college-level courses to inmates at a women's prison. Today Raritan has about 400 registered students serving prison sentences across the state.

“The program responds to a lot of things, like the idea that this would be a tool to help inmates avoid going back in and help improve recidivism rates and provide opportunities for inmates to engage in academics,” says Dr. McDonough. “It’s been an enormous success.”
