The Rutgers School of Health Professions has just received a $4.2 million federal grant. In conjunction with a new effort by the U.S. Department Health and Human Services to improve mental health services nationwide, the grant will train mental health practitioners.
Thanks to the grant Rutgers’ Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Counseling will establish a regional Mental Health Technology Transfer Center becoming one of ten nationwide that supports practitioners and organizations that offer treatment, prevention and recovery services. The U.S. Department of Health Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration created the national network center in order to bring effective mental health practices available to people with mental illness.
Rutgers center’s regional service areas includes New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. They will focus of the needs of the Hispanic population by having English and Spanish online repositories for information, materials and resources. The center is expected to be fully operational in 2019, will be located on Rutgers School of Health Profession’s Piscataway Campus and will launch in November with conferences, train-the-trainer training and online courses.
