Cal State Fullerton students, in partnership with the city and community of Maywood, are presenting the “Infinite Possibilities, Posibilidades Infinitas” eighth annual Maywood Education Fair on Saturday, Oct. 15 at St. Rose of Lima School. The free 9 a.m.-4 p.m. event features activities and workshops for pre-K to 12th-grade students, parents and community members to foster the development of a college-going culture among the predominantly Latino community. With more than 1,000 attendees expected, families will be able to learn about applying to college, careers, financial aid and more.

Cal State Fullerton students, in partnership with the city and community of Maywood, are presenting the “Infinite Possibilities, Posibilidades Infinitas” eighth annual Maywood Education Fair on Saturday, Oct. 15 at St. Rose of Lima School.
The free 9 a.m.-4 p.m. event features activities and workshops for pre-K to 12th-grade students, parents and community members to foster the development of a college-going culture among the predominantly Latino community. With more than 1,000 attendees expected, families will be able to learn about applying to college, careers, financial aid and more.
California State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, a Cal State Fullerton alumnus who earned two degrees as a Titan (B.A. political science-public administration ’82, M.A. political science ’94) is the 12:30 p.m. lunch keynote speaker. The lunch is open to all fair attendees.
The 30 CSUF graduate students organizing the event are all pursuing master’s degrees in higher education. They raised nearly $22,000 for scholarships, including $15,000 from AT&T, to be awarded to Maywood and Bell college-bound high school seniors. Sponsored by CSUF’s Educational Leadership Department and the Center for Research on Educational Access and Leadership, the fair is part of a class project for students in the master’s degree program.
The graduate students serving as lead organizers of the event are: Victor Joseph Atiliano of Garden Grove, who earned his bachelor’s degree in Asian American studies at San Francisco State University;Ebony M. Freeman of Los Angeles, who earned her bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Cal State Northridge; Jennifer Gutierrez of Bell Gardens and now living in Tustin, who earned bachelor’s degrees in sociology and education sciences at UCI; and Julia Walker of Chino, who earned her B.A. in criminal justice with a minor in sociology from CSUF. New to this year’s event is a collaboration with organizers of state Sen. Ricardo Lara’s Southeast College Fair, an annual event for the past 23 years. The two groups have joined forces to wrap both events into one on Saturday. Lara is the keynote speaker for the morning program from 9:30-10:30 a.m., which includes opening remarks from student organizers Atiliano and Gutierrez.
