BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren has joined more than 150 fellow Democratic members of Congress to protest Trump administration changes to the student loan process.

In a letter dated Monday to U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, the lawmakers said some of the changes removed requirements aimed at protecting student borrowers and helping them repay loans.

The lawmakers also said the decision to move servicing of $1.3 trillion in federal student loans to a single provider could create a "too big to fail" student loan system with poorer results for borrowers and taxpayers.

DeVos last month called the previous system — put in place under President Barack Obama — "chaotic."

DeVos said under the new system students will be treated "as valued customers and afforded the protections and respect they deserve."
