SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse University is getting $4 million in federal money to help recruit minority students interested in science and math.

U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the National Science Foundation funding on Monday. It will be used to attract and retain students interested in science, technology, engineering, and math — subject areas commonly known as STEM.

The money also will fund a study about recruiting and retaining underrepresented minority students in STEM.
