Why Is Technology Important In The Classroom?

Do students still use notebooks?  Do professors still use chalkboards or whiteboards?  The answer to both is yes, but it is not uncommon now for students (especially at the college level) to use laptops and tablets for note taking while their professor uses a PowerPoint presentation to emphasize the main points in a lecture.

While these examples may seem like small, even logical steps forward, they are only the latest of many technological advancements in the classroom.

Purdue University has a piece on their website blog entitled “The Evolution of Technology in the Classroom,” which explores the impact of technology on education, spanning back to some of humankind’s earliest civilizations.

The piece is broken down into the following areas:

~ A History of Classroom Technology: The Primitive Classroom

~ The Entrance and Significance of Personal Computers

~ The Future of Technology in the Classroom

~ Educators and the Evolution of Technology in the Classroom
