There is some good news about Hispanic reality in this country and some lingering bad news. So I begin.
Is it necessary to read and write to succeed in college? Students also need technological proficiency skills. They are essential. Yet too many Hispanics aren’t sufficiently computer savvy or Internet knowledgeable to function effectively when they arrive at college.
Every year, nearly half of all college Freshmen drop out. Some, homesick beyond reason, have to move to a college closer to home. Others transfer to smaller institutions hoping to retain their individuality. Some just can’t cope. Unfortunately, however most dropouts never return to higher education.
Hispanic Outlook from its very inception has worked to open college doors for Hispanics. There has been considerable progress but the battle is far from won. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage achievements, let’s explore this in more depth.
