Hispanic Community October 2024 Riverland Community College: A Beacon of Opportunity and Growth in Southeastern Minnesota Riverland Community College, founded in 1996, plays a vital role in southeastern Minnesota’s workforce development and education. Global September 2018 UPenn To Offer Bachelor’s Degree Accessible Online The University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences’ College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS) has become the first Ivy League school to offer a bachelor’s degree accessible online. Starting in the Fall 2019, Penn LPS Online will offer a new bachelor of applied arts and sciences (BAAS) degree for working adults and nontraditional students.
Financing September 2018 UMass Amherst Receives $3M Grant To Help Faculty Of Color The National Science Foundation has awarded its Foundation's ADVANCE Institutional Transformation grant to the University of Massachusetts Amherst to help its faculty of color in the STEM fields. As a result, new staff hiring is current underway in the STEM departments.
Health Care September 2018 West Virginia University Plans To Offer Heart Transplants West Virginia will soon have its first heart transplant program. West Virginia University’s Heart and Vascular Institute is planning to offer the first such program in the state. There are currently 22 residents of West Virginia on the waiting list for a heart transplant.
Global September 2018 U Of Nebraska At Kearney Officers Now Carrying Handguns For the first time in 44 years, University of Nebraska at Kearney campus police officers are carrying handguns. The police chief at the University, Jim Davis, said officer candidates are required to complete basic training, which takes 16 weeks, at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island.
Hispanic Community September 2018 Federal Agency Says It Lost Track Of 1,488 Migrant Children The Health and Human Services Department has lost track of 1,488 migrant children, according to what the Department told Senate staffers. This is the second time in less than a year that the federal government lost track of close to 1,500 children.
Financing September 2018 WPU Receives $250K For Shark Research Project The National Science Foundation has awarded a three-year $250,000 grant to William Paterson University environmental science professors Michael Griffiths and Martin Becker. They are leaders in a multi-university collaborative research project on the Biogeochemical Fingerprinting of the Megatoothed (“Megalodon”) Shark: A Dual Study in Thermophysiological Evolution and Seawater Chemistry.
