It is a well-established fact that the Hispanic/Latino population in the U.S., which currently represents nearly 20% of the total, continues to grow. As a result, Hispanic/Latino students will continue to have an important presence in higher education, and colleges and universities across the country will be the vehicles of social mobility and stalwarts of support for students from diverse backgrounds that they have always been, regardless of ever-shifting political developments. Bennington College is auctioning off works by Diego Rivera and Julian Dupré, as well as a graduate of the college, Helen Frankenthaler, to support the school’s Art for Access scholarship. The College’s president says the scholarships help to “increase access” to students who without the scholarships would not be able to afford the private college.

Cal State LA Celebrates 50th Anniversary Of Chicano Studies Program

California State University Los Angeles (Cal State LA) established the first Chicano studies program in the nation 50 years ago. Back then, around four percent of students were Mexican American, and the program only had four courses. Valuing the history, culture and contributions of Mexican Americans, the program now offers over 150 courses.
