Arizona Higher Education Institutions Bring Real-World Experiences To STEM Courses

Arizona State University and Phoenix College are collaborating on the development of Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CURE) to pave the way to students to make long-lasting impressions in the world. Their goal is to design, implement and access research projects, so students can gain hands-on, real-world experience to shape them into better scientists or citizens.

Their goal is to design, implement and access research projects, so students can gain hands-on, real-world experience to shape them into better scientists or citizens.

Phoenix College received $1,499,985 Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to increase recruitment and retention for students in STEM.

By integrating CUREs into STEM the program has the potential is impact more 3,000 community college students. The program investigators are aiming to raise awareness in STEM disciplines among underrepresented groups especially students from two-year HSIs.

Phoenix College’s program is among 31 new projects funded by the NSF “Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program” that invests in projects that build capacity and increase retention and graduation rates for STEM students at HSIs.
