Boston University revokes Bill Cosby's honorary degree

BOSTON (AP) — Boston University trustees have voted to revoke an honorary degree awarded to Bill Cosby.

The university said in a statement Monday that the entertainer's treatment of women "brought significant and lasting discredit upon himself" and was inconsistent with the school's values.

The university joins several other schools around the country that have rescinded honorary degrees awarded to Cosby or are considering doing so.

The university awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters to Cosby during its May 2014 commencement.

The school in its announcement Monday cited Cosby's own sworn deposition, in which he acknowledged offering quaaludes to women before sexual encounters.

Dozens of women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct. He has denied the allegations and has not been charged with a crime.
