Trident University International’s diverse set of adult learners has made indelible marks in the classroom and in professional life. ‘Faces of Trident’ is an opportunity to highlight some of the accomplishments from the University’s students and alumni.
Since graduation, Dr. Monica Jackson (Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Trident Class of ’12) has balanced two positions in the higher education field. She is the Special Project Director for Distance Education and Distance Education Coordinator at Cypress College in Cypress, CA. She also serves as a professor with a prominent for-profit institution. While a doctorate student at Trident she was able to perfect her research skills, giving her a key competitive edge. As a result, she has been able to delve into her research interest area, academic success for the underserved – including minorities. She is passionate about education that increases awareness and understanding to help bridge both known and unknown gaps. Her research has been published in multiple newsletters and journals.
Major Kari M. Fleming (Master of Business Administration, Trident Class of ’09) was chosen as a White House Fellow for 2014-15. Fleming, from Naperville, IL, is a Major in the Air Force where she has amassed more than 1900 flying hours, including over 380 combat flying hours. She most recently served as a Special Action Officer to the Commander, Air Mobility Command, where she was instrumental in developing professional development courses. She is a member of Zonta International, supporting local violence prevention centers and the advancement of women worldwide. Selection as a White House Fellow is highly competitive and has given Maj. Fleming the opportunity to receive “first hand, high-level experience with the workings of the Federal government, and to increase their participation in national affairs.”
CSM Leon Johnson was recently named as Command Sergeant Major at the Fort Benning U.S. Army Medical Department Activity and Martin Army Community Hospital (BMACH). CSM Johnson (Bachelor’s of Science in Health Science – Healthcare Management concentration, Trident Class of ’10) has served in the U.S. Army since 1990. His last assignment was the 61st Multifunctional Medical Battalion Command Sergeant Major at Fort Hood, TX. He replaced outgoing senior NCO Command Sgt. Maj. Napoleon Noguerapayan, who has served the Army for 26 years and assumed the BMACH command on July 12, 2013.
Joe Morabito (Master’s of Arts in Education, Trident Class of ’12) was recently named an assistant coach with the University of Virginia softball team. Previously he served as the head baseball coach at Orange County (FL) High School. Morabito has an extensive softball coaching resume, starting with the North Florida Community College team from 2000-07, serving as the head coach from 2004-07. From 2007-11 he served in the United States Navy, earning an U.S. Army Commendation Medal. He is an Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran and served on task unit support for Seal Team 7.
