Financial Opportunities For Health Career Training

The cost of higher education in health care can be daunting. Here is a list of some scholarship and grant programs that can ease the financial burden for tomorrow’s health professionals.

• The National Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship Program is a national scholarship program open to any student enrolled full-time in Medicine: Allopathic or Osteopathic, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing (including BSN), Public Health/Policy, or Physician Assistant

• National Institute of Health or NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program offers competitive scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral and social science health-related research

• Tylenol Future Care Scholarship awards scholarships to 40 students each year. Twenty-three years and more than eight million dollars later, they continue a tradition that supports those dedicated to health care careers.

• The HACU National Internship Program partners with some of the leading corporations in the nation to assist them in attracting and hiring the best talent from HACU (Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities) member colleges and universities.  Many internships lead to full-time roles.  Opportunities for both internships and full-time employment are available.

• Center for Disease Control or CDC-Hubert Global Health Fellowships provide an opportunity for third- and fourth-year medical and veterinary students to gain public health experience in an international setting.

• National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) Scholarships are awarded annually during the NAHN Annual Conference to NAHN members enrolled in accredited LVN/LPN, associate, diploma, baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs. Scholarships are available to NAHN members who have been in good standing for at least six months before the scholarship application deadline.

• Institute for Diversity in Health Management—Since its inception in, 1992, the Institute has provided over 120,000 in scholarships to minority graduate students enrolled in accredited health care management and service programs throughout the United States. Institute scholarships are available to first- and second-year graduate students.
