The Kennedy Center has announced their 2018 Honorees that will be honored at their 41st annual celebration of the arts held on December 2.
Artists that will be honored at the ceremony include the co-creators of “Hamilton” Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Andy Blankenbuehler and Alex Lacamoire, as well as Cher, Reba McEntire, Philip Glass and Wayne Shorter.
Honors are bestowed upon exceptional artists that make long lasting impressions on our culture and “Hamilton” is being awarded an unprecedented prize. Miranda and company are being honored as trailblazing creators of a transformative work that defies any specific category. By honoring a single piece of work the Kennedy Center is breaking from tradition to recognize the cultural impact that the musical has. Hamilton’s groundbreaking team are the youngest recipients of such an honor.
The Honors Gala will be broadcast on the CBS Network as a two-hour prime-time special airing Wednesday, December 26 at p.m. ET.
