LSU's live tiger mascot recovering from radiation treatment
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana State University's live tiger mascot is recovering after undergoing radiation treatment for a rare cancer.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1WZP0lj) the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine says in a statement that Mike VI returned to the school's campus Wednesday after what's expected to be the only round of radiation needed.
The 420-pound tiger was sedated and taken to a human cancer center near campus this past weekend where he received the radiation therapy to treat a tumor on his face after being diagnosed last month with spindle cell sarcoma.
While the treatment isn't "curative," the school says it could extend the 10-year-old tiger's life by one or two more years.
Officials say the tiger was awake Wednesday evening. He is expected to remain indoors while recuperating from the anesthesia.
