OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska State College Board has approved room and board increases at the state's three state colleges starting in the fall.
Board trustees approved hikes Friday from 3.5 percent to 5 percent at Peru State, Chadron State and Wayne State, the Omaha World-Herald reported (http://bit.ly/2mCfqPl ).
About 30 scenarios for room and board were provided, comparing the current rates with those of the next school year. About two-thirds of those scenarios amounted to 5 percent increases.
Meal plans vary based on how many meals a student desires. Housing rates also differ, depending on the residence hall, whether it's a single- or double-occupant room and other factors.
The board offered several examples to give students and parents a better idea of what to expect next school year.
At Peru State, a two-person room at Oak Hill Hall will increase 5 percent to $1,841 per semester from $1,754. The college's most expensive meal plan, which has no restrictions, will also go up 5 percent to $2,027 per semester from $1,931.
A two-person room at Chadron State's Edna Hall will increase $1,738 per semester from $1,679, a 3.5 percent hike. A meal plan including 150 meals at the dining hall will rise to $1,581 from $1,506.
At Wayne State, a two-person room at Anderson, Berry, Morey and Terrace Halls will rise 4.9 percent to $1,820 per semester from $1,735. A 19-meal-a-week plan will rise 4.1 percent to $1,895 per semester from $1,820.
