At HO, we congratulate new education leaders that have embarked on the challenging but very rewarding journey of education leadership.

1-Dr. Darrell P. Wheeler

Dr. Darrell P. Wheeler has been appointed president of SUNY New Paltz effective July 18, 2022. Dr. Wheeler currently serves as provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs at Iona College. Prior to that, he served as dean of the School of Social Welfare and vice president for Public Engagement at the University at Albany. Dr. Wheeler received his Ph.D. in social work and MPH in health administration from the University of Pittsburgh, his MSW in health/mental health from Howard University, and his BA in sociology from Cornell College.

2- Amy Kremenek

Dr. Amy Kremenek has been appointed as Tompkins Cortland Community Colleges’s fifth president, beginning June 1, 2022. Dr. Kremenek has served as vice president of Enrollment, Development, and Communications at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse for the last seven years. Previously, she was vice president of Human Resources and External Relations at Onondaga. Kremenek earned her D.M. in Community College Policy and Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus, her Master of Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Public Affairs, and her Bachelor of Science from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

3-Annette L. Ranft

Wake Forest University has named Annette L. Ranft the next dean of the School of Business beginning July 1, 2022. Ranft currently serves as dean and Wells Fargo Professor at the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University. Ranft previously served as dean and Steve P. Zelnak, Jr. Chair at North Carolina State University’s Poole College of Management. A noted scholar of strategic management, her research has focused on high-tech firms acquisitions, and strategic leadership. Ranft earned a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler School of Business, an M.S. in management from Georgia Tech, and a BSc from Appalachian State University. 

4-Colleen Simpson

Dr. Colleen Simpson has been selected next president of Front Range Community College beginning August 1, 2022. Dr. Simpson currently serves as vice president of Student Services and Regional Learning Centers at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, where she oversees multi-campuses and five regional learning centers. Prior to this role, Dr. Simpson served as the administrator overseeing retention and student success at Bronx Community College where she led and managed a comprehensive program of services promoting access, retention, engagement, and completion.

5-Parwinder Grewal

Dr. Parwinder Grewal has been appointed inaugural president of Vermont State University beginning July 1, 2022. VSU, comprised of the current Castleton University, Northern Vermont University, and Vermont Technical College, will be the first statewide, hybrid institution in the United States. VSU will welcome its first class in Fall 2023. Grewal joined UTRGV in 2015 as the inaugural dean of the College of Sciences and was named Executive Vice President for Research, Graduate Studies, and New Program Development in April 2018. He currently serves as Special Assistant to the President.

6-Roy Haggerty

Roy Haggerty has been appointed as the next executive vice president and provost at Louisiana State University, beginning August 1, 2022. Haggerty currently serves as dean of the College of Science and Professor of Environmental Geology at Oregon State University. He has also served as interim dean of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences and as associate vice president of research at OSU. Haggerty received a Ph.D. and M.S. in hydrogeology from Stanford University and a B.Sc. with first class honors from the University of Alberta.
