At HO, we congratulate new education leaders that have embarked on the challenging but very rewarding journey of education leadership.

Warren Hilton

Dr. Warren Hilton has been appointed next president of Onondaga Community College. Dr. Hilton comes to OCC from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania where he served as vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. He has also held administrative roles at the Community College of Philadelphia, Drexel University in Philadelphia, Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in Baltimore, Stevenson University in Stevenson, MD, and University of Maryland-College Park. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a doctorate at Drexel University.

Jose Fierro

The Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges (CEOCCC) Board elected Dr. Jose Fierro, Cerritos College President/Superintendent, as the 2022-23 Board President. Dr. Fierro will serve a three-year term through 2026. He will lead the 15-member board that includes chancellors, superintendent/presidents, and presidents of 116 colleges and districts across the California community college system. A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Dr. Fierro grew up in Bogota, Colombia, and joined Cerritos College in 2015. Prior to that, he served as the vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Liz Russell

Liz Russell has been named president of Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC) in Bangor, Maine. Russell, who was previously vice president of academic affairs at EMCC, has held multiple senior leadership positions at EMCC since joining the college in 1994. Russell, who is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Community College Leadership through Walden University, has a master’s degree in business and a bachelor’s degree in business teacher education from Husson University. 

Jennifer L. Mnookin

Dr. Jennifer L. Mnookin has been named chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Mnookin currently serves as dean of the School of Law and Ralph and Shirley Shapiro Professor of Law at UCLA where she has also served as vice dean for External Appointments and Intellectual Life and vice dean for Faculty and Research. Prior to that, she was a professor at the University of Virginia School of Law and visiting professor at the Harvard University Law School. She earned her Ph.D. in the History of Social Study of Science and Technology from MIT, a J.D. from Yale Law School, and an A.B. in Social Studies from Harvard College.

Joanna Mirecki Millunchick

Joanna Mirecki Millunchick has been appointed dean of the Indiana University Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. Millunchick joins IU from the University of Michigan, where she has worked as assistant professor of materials science and engineering, rising through the ranks to associate professor in 2004; full professor in 2010; and associate dean in 2017. Millunchick earned her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University in 1995 and her Bachelor of Science in physics from DePaul University in Chicago in 1990.

Shannon Hader

Shannon Hader, MD, MPH, has been named the dean of the School of International Service at American University. Hader has served as Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of Programmes at the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Before accepting the position at the UN, Dr. Hader served as Director of the Division of Global HIV and TB at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She also has served as Vice President and Director at Futures Group International (now Palladium); and as Senior Deputy Director of the HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD of Washington DC, among other capacities.
