“40-Year Art Adventure” at Norco College Art Gallery is an exhibition featuring artwork by Professor Emerita Karin Skiba-Russo.

From October 24 to December 10, visitors can visit the Gallery and view her works on a career-spanning “40-Year Art Adventure.” The exhibition is free to the community. The opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 2-5 pm.  A college hour reception and artist talk will take place on Tuesday, October 27, from 12:50-1:50 pm.  The evening reception and interview with the artist is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, from 6-8 pm.

Skiba-Russo's upcoming retrospective is a culmination of her art accomplishments from 1975 to 2015, featuring a variety of media including sculpture in wood and textiles, mixed-media collage, and painting.

“I know few who can make a full-time living just doing art,” she said. “Most artists are working at something else. However, your job as an artist, as a student of life, as a student of society, is to embrace art as your life.”

“With a résumé that includes shows in Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, and Portland, as well as our local Riverside Art Museum, this Norco exhibition has work from 40 years to offer as an example of artistic persistence and passion to the students of the College and the District,” said Art Gallery Director Quinton Bemiller.

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Skiba-Russo began exhibiting her work in Canada, and moved to California in the late ‘70s when she attended Claremont Colleges. Already building a strong exhibition record, she began teaching at Riverside Community College District in 1990 and was the full-time art instructor at Norco College from 1991 until 2011.  She was the first Norco College Art Gallery director.
