Scholarship created to remember slain university student

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A university in Ohio is creating a scholarship fund to remember a teenage student slain last month in Cincinnati.

Wright State University announced the creation of the Parris Hummons Memorial Scholarship on Monday.

Police have said Hummons died at a hospital after someone opened fire on the car she and her friend were in on the night of April 16.

Hummons had been in her second year at the Dayton university. She planned to major in rehabilitation services.

The fund is being created with the support of David and Theresa Gasper. David is on the Dayton Early College Academy's governing board, where Hummons graduated from in 2014.

The charter school's graduates are the preferred scholarship recipients. Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA and have a financial need.
